PLEDGE TO BE A MEMBER AND SAVE THE POOL*

Thanks for pledging!

We are in Crisis

Having been a successful community facility since 2009, the Centre - that is the gym, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and more importantly the Pool - is in a crisis bought about by both Covid and the increase in energy costs.

Pre-Covid there were nearly 150 annual members supporting the Pool. This has dropped to only 40. Many people, including previous members, continue to use the Pool on a pay as you go basis. This has to change as the Pool is no longer viable if it has to depend on this uncertain revenue stream. As one of only two community pools in Ireland that are not supported by the Council, hotel or large corporate business group, we depend on you.

There has been a huge hike in energy costs.

After much deliberation, the Board of Directors have made a decision that the Pool will cease trading before the end of this year unless membership numbers increase to 200. The Community now have to make a decision as to whether they wish to have a local pool and save three full-time local jobs.

“This is not about using the pool; it’s about having the pool”

As part of our survival plan: membership categories will be streamlined and some new categories introduced:-

Ordinary Membership- Single €500/ family from €1000 p.a

Country Membership* - Single €300 / family €500 p.a.

Hotel/ Corporate membership- starts at €2000 p.a

*(Country membership is available to members of the community whose primary residence is more than 50 km from Baltimore and is a replacement for the current Holiday Home membership)

We can no longer offer memberships of less than 12 months, holiday home memberships or swim cards.

Individual and family single entry tickets will remain.

THE CENTRE SHUTS UNLESS WE CAN SEE A STEADY AND PREDICTABLE INCOME STREAM FROM ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS.

The Pool is projected to cost about  €250,000 per annum to run.

Swimming lessons should bring in about €50,000

Casual summer walk-ins bring in about €20,000

Fundraising and other donations €20,000

The balance of ca. €160,000 needs to be funded by Membership income from people and businesses who want to see the community continuing to benefit from access to a locally heated swimming pool. Bear in mind the next pool is 30mins drive from Baltimore!

We are asking you to make a simple pledge to become a member. If we do not receive the required number of pledges we will not call upon anyone to honour their pledge.

IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE 200 PLEDGES BY OCTOBER THEN WITH GREAT REGRET THE POOL WILL HAVE TO BE SHUT.

Please text PLEDGE to 0894197008 to give your support.

Or hit the PLEDGE button on our homepage.

You won’t have to pay anything yet, it’s just so we know that you promise to do so.

No pledge will be followed up if we don’t get 200.

Please talk to your friends; spread the word as far as possible: forward this appeal to anyone you might know with an interest in Baltimore and its facilities.
