Wild Atlantic Pool swim squad to represent Cork in All Ireland Community Games in Athlone
The All Ireland HSE Community Games is an independent voluntary organisation, operating in local communities throughout Ireland. The organisation aims to provide opportunities for children and young people aged 6-16 years to develop active healthy lives in a safe environment through experiencing a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. The Organisation believes that every young person should have the opportunity to take part in sports and art in their local community and grow up understanding how good it makes you feel when you are active and healthy. The organisation caters for children aged 6-16 years throughout 30 counties. It is not entirely sports based, there is a culture and arts section so children get an opportunity to experience a wide range of activities.
Swimming is probably the Community Games largest single sporting event!
We at the Wild Atlantic Pool are fortunate to have a large team children and teens competing and representing their pool and their county at national level. The commitment shown by these children has been exemplary over the year. They have trained weekly at our swim training sessions with their superb coaches Katrina and Carrie and won their competitions in Leisureworld in Cork to qualify to compete for Cork in the All Ireland Community games in Athlone on the 16th of August.
We are representing Cork in the Girls U16 Freestyle 50m, Girls U13 Squads 4 x 25m Freestyle, Girls U16 Squads 50m Medley, Girls U10 25m Freestyle and Boys U12 Freestyle 25m
As our swim training ceases for the summer, Steven Black, renowned open water and long distance swimmer has given generously of his time to coach the squad over the summer months.
We here at The Wild Atlantic Pool, Baltimore, West Cork wish all the squad the best of luck in Athlone on August 16th. We thank Steven his expertise and time.
We are so proud of you all.
